Student Testimonials

“I started Bikram yoga as a nineteen-year old male who knew everything. Imagine my surprise when the girl who brought me outlasted me on the mat. I came for the sake of competition; I stayed for the challenge to myself. Yet for such a mentally and physically challenging form of yoga, Bikram is remarkably accessible. It never changes, but I do. I always feel as though I have progressed in some way after each class. And after four years, I continue now not for the cross-training opportunity but for the calm alertness that every class brings. Thank you for bringing this practice into my life.

Josh Nobleman, Age 23

“Thank you Bikram Yoga West Edmonton! My personal inspirational story…
I've always been a very health conscience person, and working out and training at the gym was a very big part of my life. I took my training very seriously, to the extent that I competed in two 'Figure' competitions in the Alberta Body Building Provincials. Three years ago I suffered from some extreme trauma that affected my right shoulder and my lower back. This inhibited my training to the point that I did not work out or touch a weight for over 8 months. This was very devastating for me.
I spent a year and a half getting physio therapy, acupuncture, massage therapy, trips to the Chiropractor, IMS etc. without much improvement. My sister said, "you've tried everything else, why don't you try yoga?" Well I've never been interested in yoga, but I tried it. I am so glad I did!!
It was a very slow process, but after attending Bikram Yoga 3 times/week for about 6 months, I was able to start back at the gym training very lightly. This was very encouraging for me. Six months later my training had improved again to the point that I set a personal goal for myself in January 2011. If I could keep training and get myself back into 'tip-top shape', I would compete in the Bikini Category in the Muscle Beach Fall Classic Body Building Competition which would take place in October 2011. This class is a much 'softer' look in comparison to the regular Body Building and Figure classes. The criteria still requires athletic physique, with a moderately lean look.
Well, my training was going great, so I set my goal and I did compete. At 45 years of age, I got into my bikini and went on stage! I felt great, and… I did it! I accomplished and achieved my personal goal! With hard work, determination, and attending Bikram Yoga, I did it! Thank you to all my yogi buddies for all your support and encouraging words in helping me to reach my goal!
As we learn in the Bikram studios as we're doing our yoga, if you set your mind to do something, you can do it!
Thanks again Bikram Yoga!

“I have been involved in 3 car accidents, through no fault of my own. As a result, I have suffered severe whiplash, a torn rotator cuff, T.M.J., a broken breast-bone, knee trauma and fibromyalgia. I've had cortisone injections, trigger-point injections, physiotherapy, acupuncture, I.M.S., chiropractic, and last but not least, heavy doses of drug therapy including oxy-codone (Percocet)!

During the challenge I started to notice that my pain was diminishing. I cut my drug-doses in half and some days I needed no medication at all. I can say with all honesty that Bikram is the only thing I've tried since 1996 that has given me perfect pain relief.

Thank God for Bikram Yoga. I only wish that I would have stumbled upon it 13 years ago, after my first car accident.

“Since I started yoga, I changed my workout routine to run twice a week and do yoga 3-4 times a week. My running buddies were worried about my training falling off, but I stayed with this for 2 months and ran a personal best in the Vancouver Marathon…”

“One of the most interesting benefits has been my capacity to recover from long training runs. Usually after a 25 to 30 km run I am moving pretty slowly the next day. With Bikram I find that I recover quickly and am ready to go the next day.”

Bruce MacMillan, Age 55
